Hello!

Is there any City of Houston responsibility for this standing water issue on the street? Going back on Google street view for many years on this spot, water pools in front of several homes/driveways/curbs on this street. I am currently monitoring one that has been existing for over a week (have not looked since the rain yesterday though). This Google street view shot (attached) is from Jan 2020 and it looks the same today, this Jan 2021.

It would seem a call to the city to something from current residents or residents could fix this somehow or is it the homeowner's responsibility or are neighbors just stuck with this?

City streets or the health department - re the potential for mosquito, stagnate water - would be the city or county departments to reach out to?

Thanks.

You can call 311 and report it. However, it appears the issue is either due to damage to the driveway, or failure to keep studd out of the gutter. Those are the homeowner's responsibility.

Default Puddles! Ha-ha...

Not laughing at your puddles, but it reminded me of this girl who used to hang out with us when we'd go out drinking at the clubs... this was during the Richmond Strip days... she'd always get hammered, and pass out and no one wanted her in their cars because she'd pass out, and well... you can guess.

BTW, amateur of me I know, but those were amateur times!

As for the puddles on your street, the city will not do anything. That is caused by settlement, and so you would be responsible to fix it if you wanted it fixed. I do have to say, that street looks amazing compared to the shyt we have to deal with here in parts of Montrose, which is Third World messed up, and the city does not do a damn thing about those problems.

Here is a tip... if you report it as some sort of 'safety' issue, then they will at least send someone out to look at it, maybe fill it with asphalt. If you just say water collects, they will most likely not do anything. Good luck, and let us know what transpires.

.
Funny you say that. I was commenting to my wife same thing couple weeks ago when we were driving in Montrose. Streets in Brazil where we lived for couple years were better than those.

I was just driving down Greenbriar between Main and Holcombe cussing up a storm because of how terrible the street is. That would be one thing, but I can't remember a time when that section of street WASN'T messed up in my entire lifetime (30+ years).

Sometimes I think the city lets certain sections deteriorate as it discourages speeding. Either way, its ridiculous.

Update: I put in a request on 311. Although the water standing in front of my potential new home was dry, several other homes still had standing water since Saturday's rain, so hopefully, if the city does come by they will see the issues are not just one home.
