Why is crime increasing in Houston? Houston was never part of the "defund" movement and Houston actually increased it's police department budget last year:

So, why is HPD struggling so much?

You are naïve if you think police have much impact on crime. The main job of the police is to clean up after crime.

Agreed. I'm not sure the root cause of increased crime, but probably doesn't help that the past year has been really tough on the job market. Not excusing anything of course, but in desperate times people can do some pretty irrational things.

Low Bail so the main cause. Over 70 people in Harris County alone which had somewhere around 500 homicides last year. If these people weren’t out on felony bonds but in jail, we would still be looking at an increase but a much more modest one than this year. In homicide and many other crimes committed by this small community of several hundred people wouldn’t have happened.

Yep that's one of the culprits of rising crime in Houston. Other factors

1. Pandemic- most major cities in America continue to see a tick in crime. I think the pandemic has been a bit of an influence when you look at the uptick of domestic violence cases in this country. Some people are liable to snap quicker than normally would under the constraints of what comes with this pandemic. I'm not suggesting the pandemic is turning sane people crazy but that a person with a couple of loose screws could probably be triggered more rapidly under abnormal circumstances.

2. Economic woes- If people are not eating and feeding their family they're more likely to resort to a life of crime. And violence is not to hard to find once you choose that lifestyle.

3. Low Drug distribution in Houston-When it's dry on the streets things get a little hot fast.

Adding more police only makes the more wealthy neighborhoods less in crime because that’s where they mostly go. The hood polices it self because the cops don’t

The Pandemic is probably the largest reason. Crime is up everywhere because of it.

Street justice. Why wait for the police when you can take care of the problem yourself? I don't condone it, but that's the law of the ghetto.

It’s a little more complicated than that. I don’t condone the reasoning behind it which is the inadequate policing depending on neighborhood. And not to mention the corruption that rich people have in the criminal justice system. So policing itself is a resort that Hass to be done.

That is a wrong statement. Police go to where the calls are. We live in Energy Corridor area and you rarely see HPD there. We rely on Constables more.
