I just received a handbook and UI Benefits information package from Texas Workforce Commission. I never applied for any un-employment benefits as I am not unemployed.

What does that mean?

Hi,

I immediately went to https://www.twc.texas.gov/reporting-fraud and filed as a fraud online. It is a lot of paper work which states my salary, company name and everything. So looks like it is coming from the Texas Workforce Commission but someone else tried to file unemployment claims since I am employed and never filed it myself.

They sent that letter to me in e-mail, but I assumed because I used to employ a nanny and paid UI taxes. Did you ever have employees?

Someone probably tried to file unemployment on your behalf. It is a scam and a huge problem that is on the rise.

@Houston321,

Yes. I called the Texas Workforce Commission and they did not pick up any phone so I left them a message on the fraud line, sent them email and also notified them for the fraud on their online website.

Default It is a current scam...

One of my friends told me he got a call from HR to ask him if he filed for unemployment benefits, and both started to laugh... because he obviously did not. His identity was stolen, you need an SSN to file.

Two weeks later, another friend of mine, works at the same company, also was contacted by HR to verify the same, his identity was also stolen. Then there was a third. 'Sorry, but I don't want to say what company it is.

Anyway, I'd take action to protect your identity. When your identity is stolen, it is a huge burden and pain for a few years! Good luck to you if this happened to you.

Update: Here is an article about it... https://www.houstonchronicle.com/bus...n-16117087.php

Yes, it’s a scam that has also affected us. Someone tried to file unemployment benefits using our identity as well. Took a lot of phone calls and was a major hassle to clear it up.

A while back someone stole my identity to take out, then default on a loan. Trashed my previously excellent credit score. The criminal was traced to a location in Houston.
