Yeah they like to play games with financing sometimes. I bought a truck pretty much right before this whole supply issue started so I didn't have the issues many in this thread are\have experienced. I did have the sales guy apply for financing with a crap ton of banks when I already had financing with my bank that I sent to him. There were only two things I asked of him and that was to have everything ready for me to sign and do not try to find a lower rate by sending my info to a bunch of lenders. If the truck looks like it does in the pictures and starts up I am leaving in it. He really didn't have to do much.
Oh I let him have it when he said "Well, we couldn't beat your rate" and proceeded to show me the other offers for financing. Not really a big deal and I was still leaving with that truck but pretty dishonest in my opinion.
Anyway the truck was clean, gassed up and ready to go. I was in and out in 10 minutes so that was nice.

Agreed on the price, went down, purchased it. Pretty good experiences.
You were lucky, they play games too. When looking for my wife's 2020 Outback I called 2 dealers that said there were no Premium Outbacks with the hands-free liftgate in Abyss Blue Pearl at any of the dealers in western Washington, and they tried to get me to go for silver or black. I called a 3rd, less than 1/2 hour from the others, and they had two in stock with the exact features we wanted.

One thing that caught my mind about AWD in Houston is wet to slightly wet grass. At my old townhouse, I saw 3 occasions where contractors drove a RWD truck onto slightly wet grass. All of them got stuck and had to get towed out with another truck or tow truck.
