I know gambling is illegal in Texas, right? My husband has a gambling problem which is a major reason I want to relocate to Texas and get out of NJ. Where is the closest place you could go to Houston or Dallas to play blackjack or other casino table games? I'm praying it's at least 5 hours or so!

Not counting online gambling, I believe it's 3-4 hours from Houston to some casinos in Louisiana.

Houston also has some game rooms around town that pay ''tokens'' or "credits." Yeah, just like those Asian spas/stress mgmt & aromatherapy places-- they only offer ''massages.'' Every so often you'll hear about some of those types of establishments that got busted.

In DFW, techincally closest casinos are just over the boarder in Oklahoma (although they don't hold a candle to the quality of the casinos that are in Shreveport). The faux casinos in Oklahoma are just over 2 hours away. Shreveport and the Harrahs and Horseshoe type casinos are roughly a 3 hour drive east.

If your husband is that bad, be aware that both Dallas and Houston have horse tracks.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

Also Gulf Greyhound Park in Texas City, on the way to Galveston.

EDIT: Looks like he can still watch cockfighting in Louisiana until August: Cockfight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Default Will there be gambling in Galveston?

Does anyone know the status of the "proposed" gambling in Galveston?

Apparently Fertitta has run into some serious credit / financial problems and most of the big ideas are stalled if not dead.

Thank you all. My husband has no interest in horses - he hates the track. I'm safe from slots too. HIs thing is only blackjack and we live 2 hours from Atlantic city and he can't control himself.

Thanks!

Lake Charles is 2 hours away from Houston and Shreveport is about the same distance from Dallas. It is close enough to get to casinos easily.
