Houston ranked 48th out of 50 American cities for music lovers, by Clever, whoever they are, yet the only category that Houston actually ranks poorly in is the "per capita venues".

Miami is the worst overall city for music-lovers, with pricey concert tickets ($166) that exceed the average city's ticket costs ($126) by 32%.

Sounds like terrible analysis seeing the categories they chose to rank. Miami shouldn’t be last

They need to put actual shows per year. I can’t name 5 cities that get more Afrobeats, Venezuelan etcetera artists than Houston. We are almost always a must stop location for international tours in the U.S it seems. While Miami is literally a must stop location for any artist with even a little presence. Maybe theirs other metrics it does poorly in but dead last makes no sense.

As one who plays in the metal scene locally, its certainly bad for that. Even the big name metal bands here in Houston (like Oceans of Slumber or Insect Warfare) draw like 30-50 people where they sell out in places like Chicago, Cleveland, or Europe. What is ironic is that there is so much metal talent in Houston.

Its just a hip-hop/Latin Music city. If youre into those things, its a great music city. If you arent, it subpar at best.

Hip hop and Latin music are mainstream (atleast currently), metal isn’t. So it appeals to a lot more people by having the first. Metal isn’t tiny I realize that but it’s a niche genre. A metal artist can’t sell out a full sized stadium (with the exception of some legends who rode when it was hot).

But it depends on where too. In the US I agree. In Europe metal is the mainstream. This is especially true in Germany, Iceland, and Scandinavia. You hear metal on the radio like we hear hip hop.

I honestly don’t have a problem with being in the metal scene here. We’re very tight knit and supportive. But we don’t get much local support. Our contemporaries in metal bands in Houston play in front of thousands in Europe.

I heard Bon Jovi is looking for an opening act for their April concert at Toyota Center. They are recruiting bands from all the cities on their tour to open for them. April is not that far away.

Hahaha...I dont think Bon Jovi fans would take to us. We play black metal.

I very much appreciate the thought though.

Metal is very broad.
Black metal is fairly small subgenre, so I'm not surprised it's not big in Houston.

But Metallica and Iron Maiden don't have problems getting full stadiums here in Houston.

I hear metal on classic rock station in Houston all the time. It's just different metal, but it's metal (Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, Metallica, Maiden, Motley Crue and hair metal bands).
