Buy some high-temperature spray paint in a bright color (orange, yellow, red) and apply to your converter. It won't completely prevent theft, but it's a visual deterrent for thieves as it'll be obvious to the buyer that the piece is stolen.

Let's steer this thread in a right direction.
Of course we all know about paint, engraving VIN, etc.

This thread is more about the places in Houston area that are safe or unsafe for the converters.

How about Woodlands Pavilion parking? It's so huge. How safe/unsafe it is? Any recent reports regarding converter thefts at that place?

In general, I would think a smaller lot, with on-site security guards would be safer. But parking garages or areas of mass parking, I think it would easier to go un-noticed. And sure lots of places have cameras but let's be real "suspect looked like (insert description) and got away in a beat up car with (you guessed it) a temporary tag not registered to that vehicle" isn't really going to help. If it's a real concern (maybe due to an event you're attending) might make more sense to take Lyft or Uber? I've personally never really thought about it. I know people who've had it happen to them, I just don't really think about it - not a lot I can do about it.

Cars parked in home driveways are also at risk at night, if the driveways aren't gated.

Honestly, there's extremely few places where cars aren't at risk for converter theft or any auto burglary. It depends on whether the property has active and fairly intense security. You have to ensure that live guards are also not being paid off by crime rings - which is tough because they're low-paid and susceptible to it.

So why do you bother to lock your doors to your home? If they want it bad enough they'll get to it, right? It's silly that people have the mentality of all or nothing.

Yes smaller lots should be safer.

I'm thinking how safe are City Center parking garage and Kemah parking garage? City Center definitely has some security presence. How well do they manage that place?

I would think that criminals would target the SUVs and trucks that look like they are for off roading
Very easy to go under them and remove things … I think

Where is this typically a problem? I'd be smart about where I park and avoid Galleria Mall altogether these days because the crime there seems to be worse than many third world countries.
