When you allow people to vote anywhere in the county they damn well please makes forecasting how many show up impossible.

In Texas the county commissioners select election judges. So the R pick the republican precinct chair, the D commissioners pick the D precinct chair.

Those precinct judges could have called for more paper way sooner. They could see they were having more voters than when we had to vote at our specific home precinct.

Yep, I think we need to go back to everyone voting in their own precinct to prevent this from happening. It's too difficult to forecast where everyone will vote to have enough ballots at every precinct. Plus you get some precincts that are slower/less efficient than others so when the lines back up people go to other precincts that are quicker. So those quicker precincts run out of ballots. Happened near me, one precinct showed they had 50 people in line on the elections website and another one showed only 5 in line so I went to that one. That one ran out of ballots in the afternoon.

We’ll never go back. Lina cited this as her very first accomplishment when she took office.

If you look at the list of polling places and how many people voted at each there is definitely an argument to cull down a number of the locations. Some locations had zero voters!

It’s not rocket science. There is no excuse for any location running out of paper.

Agreed. It's hard to understand how that can happen. Did they not have any plan to reinforce ballot supply in high demand locations? Just inexcusable incompetence.

One location near me had 150 voters in 2020. This year, there were 650. If supply quantities are based on prior years, locations like this will run out. The paper isn't that expensive, so doubling or tripling quantities shouldn't be a problem.

Another solution for supplies would be to have 10 or more locations around the county, so the driving time is decreased.

I thought Lina crossed the line in her victory speech when she disrespected Mattress Mack by deriding him as a “furniture salesman.” Apparently others felt the same as me. https://www.chron.com/politics/artic...o-17600918.php

I don’t agree that a rebuttal was necessary (It’s not clear to me who wrote the letter) but Hidalgo was foolish to make enemies in her victory speech.

People need to grow up and learn to separate politics from real life. You may not like the politics of Mattress Mack, Joel Osteen, Ed Young, Bishop Fiorenza, Rich Kinder, etc. but guess what, when there is a tragedy in this city these are the leaders that step up and rally the community to help those in need.

That Hurricane Katrina shelter at the GRB didn’t just “happen.” There were thousands of volunteers from local churches whom coordinated all of the donations and meals. Thank God, Bill White (a Democrat) was a uniter and not a divider. He knew who to call.

I don’t think Mayor Sylvester Turner would be as spiteful as Lina. He is way too smart for that, and a native Houstonian.

Mattress Mack’s letter was beyond stupid. I have never had a problem with Mack. I raise my eyebrow at his cult. I don’t care about his politics, gambling or business tactics. If you’re gonna hate on Mack. He’s just being himself and making his money. His boomer cult tho is cringe to say the least.

But this letter is one time when I will raise my eyebrow at Mac. “Our local icon built a humanitarian legacy rivaled by none” - Paid advertisement courtesy of Gallery Furniture lmao. He’s deserving every bit of backlash he’s been getting the last few days.

Feels good to not be a real Houstonian and not be forced to participate.

His letter was all too familiar-- old guy who feels entitled to tell younger woman how to behave. That tone was definitely there. I see it ALL. THE. TIME.

Mac's an old guy, I think he's 70. He usually reads the room better than this. He definitely should ahve just sucked it up on this one.

It's about time she showed some grit. One of her biggest weaknesses is her tendency to not be out in front , telling us what's going on and explaining why her opponents are wrong.
