Hi there, I am relocating to Houston from Detroit, Mi. I am looking at the Jersey Village area in NW Houston. 'I love me' some houses out there. I also looked into Katy but I want to be a little closer to the highways.

I figure I will be commuting downtown to Houston for any IT jobs. I do desktop support repair & network stuff, helpdesk etc.

Question: Does anyone know if there are similar jobs in the NW area or is that type of work primarily downtown? I just figured they are because in Detroit many of the big companies that need IT are situated downtown.

Just trying to save some gas money. My contracting house is going to place me when I am closer to my move in July or August. Looks like commute from Jersey Village to downtown can be 30min-1 hour. Does anyone drive that in the morning by the way?

Thoughts?

Thanks!
Miss Kat

Don't go by distance on the map. Your commute will be on 290, currently the most congested freeway in the city. And if they ever start reconstruction on it, it will be even worse for at least 5 years. Count on an hour minimum unless you can land a staggered shift that puts you outside peak hours.

IT Jobs in general are drawn around the SW corner (sugarland, westchase, galleria, EC) and downtown

HP has their largest office in the nation in the Champions area. Approx. 10,000 people or so. They also have a very large data center there.

SH 249 and Louetta.

You've got the park and ride up on the 290 as an option.

Sweet, SW corner and Champion areas would mean I wouldn't have to go downtown. That rocks, thanks guys! I'd love to hear more comments if you guys know more.
