I wouldn't want to start anything with anyone anywhere in the country. I think road rage exists everywhere, but it's more prevalent in the southern states. I just get angry when someone wants me to go into oncoming traffic. This dude wanted me to go into oncoming traffic today. I was so angry I gave him the finger.

So in Houston, I'd also have a high chance at someone pointing a gun at me in their car?

No. The worry over someone pointing a gun at you is overblown. I've been driving in Houston since 1976 and have never seen a gun pulled in traffic

I’ve had it happen in Louisiana and Florida. I frequently enter honking battles and finger matches while driving

Yeah, I've never had a gun pointed at me in Phoenix either. Here it's typically rolling down the window and giving the finger. I typically avoid it because I get scared ill get shot. I've heard of people I talked with who aren't on city data get guns pointed at them in Dallas. I've heard how bad the road rage there is.

I talked to a family member and he said people are the same anywhere and that Houston and Dallas are no different than Phoenix. I'm wondering now if maybe I was just relaxed and having fun which is why I saw Houston differently. He also said I take things way too personally and too sensitive.

It makes me wonder if I worked on these problems if things might become positive in Phoenix.

I'm not sure where else I could consider that has the same climate that Phoenix has. I've thought about Las Vegas, and even though family has been guiding me away from Vegas, I've thought about trying it out. Forget California, too expensive and I can't ever get a state licensure for my career there.

Las Vegas might be better due to climate, but I haven't spent time there other than the strip. I'd have to spend time outside the strip to see what it's like. Las Vegas's light rail is a monorail, which is really cool.
Unless you plan on living downtown or TMC and plan on working in those areas, Houstonians barely use light rail because it covers so little. I don't know too many people who move to either Houston or Dallas for light rail purposes.

I have never had a gun pulled on me nor seen it, and road rage seems pretty rare. Most of the driving here is completely brainless. I think the whole being strapped thing is a bit overblown because there are a lot of trash talkers. However why would you take the chance anywhere? Go ask that guy whose teenage boy was killed, if his machismo antics were worth it when he stepped to an ex-con. Some of you sound like unstable little boys whose fathers didn’t teach you how to act in public.

OP you should quit postulating and move here already. On Zillow there are a handful of little sub-$900/mo places from montrose to midtown and it’s even less outside of the loop if you can tolerate 14 languages being spoken around you. A $900/mo place translates to a minimum $625/week job. Convince your girlfriend to shack up with you. Take the leap. People move here every day and most of them seem to stay.

Don't say that on the Dallas forum, they'd have you think that light rail covers the entire Metroplex lol

Seeing this thread title and then the one below titled "Crime is out of control in Houston...", and the fact OP did this same thing about moving to Dallas in the Dallas forum...

I'm thinking it's just a joke now.

Haha, no the odds are probably quite slim.

He's probably just pulling our leg but it's an interesting question about Houstonians, native and transplant.

Houston's not the world's friendliest place, it's not Manila, but it can be a whole heck of a lot worse. I find Houstonians to generally not be fake or surface nice.
