My husband has been job relocated from San Francisco Bay area to downtown Huston. 2 weeks from now we will be in Husotn searching for a house. We were told that Sugarland is the best place to live in Huston. Wew were also told that Sweetwater is nice, and Missoury city is not bad at all. We have a 3 year-old, so we are looking for a place that has a family oriented community, good schools, very low crime, and not too far from downtown. My husband would not mind commuting btween 30-60 mints every day to and from work. We have never been in Huston or TX, so we are not sure which area would be better: Sugarland, Sweetater, or Missoury City. Also, if Sugarland is the best, what would be the best area within Sugarland?

Any feedback would be appreciated, Thank you

Blanch

Default weekly rentals close or by downtown Huston?

We will be in Huston in 2 weeks for house hunting. We will sty there for a week. We are looking to rent a house or condominium, or appt that is fully furnish and with a full kitchen close to the Galleria or downtown Huston, but I am having a bad time finding such place. Does anyone knows of a place that we could rent for a week while In Huston?

Thank you,
B

If you move to Missouri City...
1. Live in the Fort Bend County section
2. Try to be zoned to Dulles or Elkins High School

The Dulles and Elkins schools are considered to be better than Hightower, Marshall (both in Fort Bend ISD, serving the Fort Bend County section), and Westbury (in Houston ISD, serving the Harris County section).

Sugar Land seems to have universally good schools! Sweetwater Estates is zoned to the Sugar Land schools.

Some sections of Sweetwater are zoned to Settlers Way ES, while others are zoned to Colony Bend ES.

All sections are zoned to First Colony MS and Clements HS.

When buying a home in FBISD, make sure to use this http://zonemaps.fortbend.k12.tx.us/edulog/webquery/WebQuery.jsp (broken link) to confirm the zoning assignments.

Before moving to Houston, you might want to consider how to spell it correctly.

For a week only, you might want to consider furnished corporate housing, but those might be expensive. Or, you can also consider extended stay at a hotel/motel, which might give discount if you stay for a whole week.

Sugar Land, Sweetwater (which is in Sugar Land), Missouri City, and Pearland would all be good options for you.

In Missouri City, I agree to look at areas zoned to Elkins or Dulles high school -- these are basically the more western portions of the city -- the other areas aren't quite as good.

I agree that the above mentioned areas are nice: Sweetwater in Sugar Land is really nice. Check out Sienna Plantation and Riverstone in Missouri City, and Shadowcreek Ranch in Pearland. Check out shadowcreekranch.net

There is so much mentioning of Pearland, but what about Friendswood, League City, Clear Lake and Webster?

Probably because of it's proximity to Downtown Houston. Pearland (west) is a nice area and much closer to downtown than Friendswood, League City, Clear Lake and Webster. Those are nice areas, however.

Default In the same boat

I am pondering over the same issues, so my heart goes out to you. Luckily, we don't have to move so soon. We are planning on moving in 5-6 months. I hope your search goes well. Although I can't provide you with the insight that others have given you, I wanted you to know that you weren't in this alone.
