Hello,

I was curious where you finally landed with this, and if you are satisfied. We have the exact same dilemna and now need to make a decision tomorrow. everything i read is pretty much split down the middle (remove vs. don't remove tile). any info will really help.

thank you.

We just closed on a 3500sqft house in sugarland. The living room, kitchen and hallway are covered by slippery ceramic tiles. We wanted to put engineered wood floor on it. We have been interviewing floor installers for two weeks so far and got confused on whether the tiles should be removed before installinig wood floor. Some contractors said that the tile doesn't need to be removed, they will just glue the wood floor on top of it and there won't be problem forever. Other contractors said the tiles should definitely be removed otherwise the glue will not work after 3-5 yrs.

We've heard that removing ceramic floors is such a painful process... Does anyone have commons on that? Thanks in advance!!!

Is this a 'floating' wood floor?

I would remove the tile for the stated reasons. Yes it’s painful and arduous, but that’s life. If it’s a glue-down floor then make sure they use the good glue. The cheap stuff will not hold.

I personally don’t like the floating floors because they always sound hollow when you walk across it. Good Luck.

I am also in this dilemna. I want to leave Sugar Land and buy in Cinco ranch. These homes are 1994-1998 and most have 12" sq tiles all over YUK! I love the beauty of Cinco Ranch and know this will be a mess but looking at most of the answers...tile should be removed and doing it before one moves in is so much better so you do not breathe in the dust and dust all over the furniture. My presnt SL home has woods and 18" tile and carpeting. Now, to find a good tile store and installer.
