I thought this might be a hot issue. I wonder how many Houston-ions disagree with this.

Austin ranks as having the worst drivers in Texas

The 9 cities with the best drivers with more than 1 million population:

1. Phoenix, Ariz.
2. San Diego, Calif.
3. New York, N.Y.
4. Houston, TX
5. San Antonio, TX
6. Dallas, TX
7. Chicago, Ill.
8. Los Angeles, Calif.
9. Philadelphia, Pa.

Is Alstate full of hogwash?

I have lived in 4 of the 9 cities and have driven in all the other cities listed here and yes Allstate is hogwash.

How many other big US cities besides these 9 are over 1M in population? PRobably Not talking about metros.

I thought Phoenix was one of the craziest cities I've ever driven through mid-day.

This shows what I"ve been saying before. Houston is no better / no worse for driving than any other huge city.

I'm living in Austin but have spent summers living in Houston and will be moving there. Houston drivers are aggressive to be sure but Austin drivers simply don't think and even though they are often driving under the speed limit, doing dumb stuff slowly can be even more dangerous than if someone does it quickly and is out of your way.

I have come to the conclusion that drivers everywhere are bad. We all think we are the best drivers, and everyone else is just plain nuts. My only issue with these types of studies is if they are actually used for something that will cost me money (e.g., insurance premiums). Otherwise, they are all pretty silly and are just a way to get the study-sponsors name in the news.

Good to know. From casual observation it sure doesn't look that way. All the rampant aggression is scary because drivers here leave NO margin for error and when they are going 90 mph, any mistakes are going to have serious and possibly fatal consequences.
