Local preservation group Houston Mod picks a mid-century modern house that is for sale every month and basically "spotlights" it as their "mod of the month." It is held open in hopes of finding a buyer that will restore it.

The July MOTM is in Glenbrook Valley this time, at 8015 Arletta.

HoustonMod > Resources (http://www.houstonmod.org/resources.aspx?sub=props - broken link)

In addition to the spotlighted house, there will be a number of other houses open at the same time, so it is almost like a home tour.

So for anyone who has a soft spot for older houses and mature neighborhoods, you can come out to my neck of the woods and see a number of interesting mid-century houses, from moderns to Tudor. A good chance to learn about another older area you might not be familiar with.

What: Houston Mod July "Mod of the Month" Open houses.

When: July 13th from 2 to 4 PM.

Where: Glenbrook Valley, open houses -

8015 Arletta
8119 Stony Dell Ct.
7831 Santa Elena
8206 Glencrest
8211 Colgate
7707 Lakewind

Those are simply gorgeous! That side of Bellfort has always had beautiful homes. Looked them all up on HAR so I could see photos of the insides.

I love the 9th picture. It's the way the not so big house should be.

Three of these homes have exceptional locations. The Mod on Arletta is at the end of a culdesac on a very private street. The Ranch on Stony Dell is on a very hilly lot. If you go in the house, be sure to walk around the backyard. From the backyard you have a birdseye view of one of Glenbrooks best mods, one of the Parade of Homes Houses on Glenview. The topography in that section is like the hilly area of Idylwood that fronts the golfcourse. The Lakewind House is on the bayou on a very short tucked away street. This is a great chance to see several houses in a neighborhood that coming back to it's 1954 granduer ! Don't miss out !

I've been inside a few of those and they are definitely worth seeing. Someone is going to get a great deal when they buy one of those.
