While Willis and Conroe are close together - I believe Conroe feels more like a medium-sized city while Willis feels more like a small town.

Willis is served by the Willis Independent School District (school system), while Conroe is served by the Conroe Independent School District/

Conroe HS and several feeder schools serve Conroe.

The only problem I see with Willis is that our politicians are expanding the Conroe airport to make a clone of Hobby Airport (Houston). Precinct 1 Commisioner Mike Meador considers it a "Diamond in the Rough". Look at the main runway on Google Maps or whathaveyou. Flights taking off will go directly over Willis and then above the Nastional Forest between I-45 and the lake. Conroe City Council members used to not be interested and then suddenly got excited. Smells like money in someone's pocket. They claim it is so that corporate jets can take off with full load of fuel. I checked the mfg websites. All the corp jets can use what is already there. Smaller Boeing and Airbus jets need the runway extension and the new control tower. Just what Soutwest, UPS, and Fed-Ex use and who Meador has been speaking with. So we are going to have commecial jets roaring overhead unless people learn about it and stop it!

I like the Willis area. There has been a lot of new development north of loop 336 along I-45.

It depends on how far out in the country you go. You say it means being too far away from everything. What do you want to be closer to? If you want to be close to the Houston arts and theatre scene or high society scene, then yes it is about an hour away. However, there is a theatre group in Conroe who put on shows in an old renovated theatre. There are plenty of stores with all the things you could need - Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, Target, Walmart + Sam's, Office Depot, Best Buy, plenty of grocery stores and pharmacies, a wide variety of dining opportunities, we have a hospital and medical clinics, doctors and dentists and optometrists, etc.

Just what would you be far away from? Houston smog? Hurricane evacuation gridlock and flooded streets when it rains heavy? The new high-rise skyscraper condo going up next door?

Far from Diverse. No beach. You just don't get the city life. No night life.

what do people really mean by diverse? do you mean racially diverse? do you mean politically diverse? do you mean wealth? i usually assume that when people want diversity they mean it in a racial sort of way. racial diversity is usually not a good thing and usually doesn't last long. one group moves and the other stays.

I think he meant racial diversity. How does it not last long? Your statement doesn't hold much water because Houston is becoming more diverse by the day almost. Just look at the older cities like New York which have been diverse since day one.

This thread was about the Willis/Conroe area, neither of which is diverse simply because they're just too far out in the country. I realize not everybody wants the fast paced city life, yet they want to live close enough to a large metropolitan area to reap the benefits & that is fine by me. Its all a matter of personal preference really.
