Heard a lot of talk from the web, that Houston has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the US.

Is that true?

What are the average salaries like?

What are rents going for?

Do you have bad areas?

Thank you for your response.

Economy overall is doing just fine, thanks!

In all seriousness, there isn't a single-sentence answer to your questions. Average salaries for what type of job? Rents for what type of housing? Bad areas relative to what?

Yes, avg salaries depend on your profession, houston has rich and poor folks
Rents go from 700 to damn near 3,000+ for uptown condos and townhomes.
5th ward parts of SW, Acres Homes, parts of 3rd ward are known as the hood or bad areas(whatever).

I talked to a recruiter the other day and she mentioned that she had more jobs coming in than she had recruits, especially in accounting, finance, and engineering. She said companies are hungry for workers. I've also heard plant and refineries are paying huge sums for people right out of high school because of the huge lack of workers right now.

Houston has very affordable housing, and while there has been a slow down, we are not in crisis mode like many other parts of the country.

Wages and salaries tend to be lower than other parts of the counrty, but it tends to be inline with the lower cost of living. In fact, despite slightly lower wages, most peoples' quality of life is much higher.

Without knowing more specifics, however, it would be hard to give you more specific answers.

What is the name of that recruiter? My husband and I are both in finance. My hubby is interviewing now with a company in Houston, but don't know if he will get the offer or not. If not, need Plan Ba s we want to get back to Houston
