I think most beach towns in the US are fairly expensive to live in. But I was looking at stats on Galveston and its seems like anyone can afford to buy a house out there. Is all the Texas coast cheap like this?

Next question.

Yes the Texas Gulf Coast is less costly then any other beach property in America.

But dont tell anyone. Word is already out to the wealthy Californians who already ruined Las Vegas. Hey we all like to pick on the Californians.

Really though. The Texas Coast is the one of the last affordable ocean/Gulf/beach towns in America. If your looking to relocate and dont have to worry about commuting, go south of Galveston. They have a little crime there but I always felt safe in and around the RV parks and walking on Seawall Blvd.

My personal favorite is Crystal Beach or Gilchrist (just a short ferry ride north) where we stay quite often. But heading south, the favorite spots are Kemah with the nice broadwalk, Matagorda, Port Aransas, Port Arthur, Rockport to name a few of the more popular beach areas.

But if you are buying, get in fast as those builders are putting up way too many of those tall human filing cabinets at stupid prices. Those who buy are buying a nice view but those who cant afford to buy them have lost another beautiful view that is gone forever. Ugly monstrosities !!

I don't know, you could maybe bring your 4x4 and get to the beach that way. Not very popular though. More popular would be about 5 miles east of High Island where Hwy 87 is washed up... also bring your 4x4 and join others in the buff. Hippie Hollow, eat your heart out!!!

Anyway, there's a reason the TX coast is cheap. Come down here, open up your eyes and simply take a look.

The closest "Port Arthur" beach would be Sea Rim in Sabine Pass.

You DON'T want to go east of High Island to the washed out area. (I mistakenly drove up on it with 3 kids in my truck)

Well... they say if you're a ''naturist'' that it's a lot more family friendly than Hippie Hollow. Lots of reports Hippie Hollow is full of single guys shining their helmets. No reports of that east of High Island.

And the big orange signs in Port Arthur still say Sea Rim State Park CLOSED. I'm hoping it'll reopen before my job here is over with, so I can check it out.

Well, all I can say is I see the Beaumont TV and newspaper daily, and perhaps I hear alot more than you do. Noted above, I accidentally drove up on it, also.

That area is a cesspool for drugs and perversion, period. If 300 lb, 60 year old men having oral intercourse with each other in public isn't a problem, I don't know what is.
