I am a 24 year old female living in the wonderful Bay Area, and have been living here for 20 years. Because I've been here for so long, Im used to the life style and scenery, but I know that once I start working and saving money, I'm not going to be able to afford to get the type of house that I want out here in Cali. I know that I can have the house and lifestyle that I want in Texas, but can someone suggest where I can find this. I have family suggesting Houston, but I would like to know what you dudes and dudettes think?

1) My fiance is a SF DJ in the salsa clubs. Would he be able to find a good gig? It's his passion and I would hate for that to come to an end due to a move.

2) We love the beach, we dont have to be really close to it, but if it can be close that would be nice. And is there a good surf?

3) I dont want to be too far from the city life for work, school for kids and entertainment, but far enough to build a house and enjoy the greenery, privacy, two goats and the quiet.

4) Did I mention I love mom and pop coffee shops, stores and things like that.

Thank you for your help and ideas. This will really help me alot.

With the exception of the salsa clubs, which would be in Houston proper, I think of Alvin (a suburb) when I read this for some reason.

No surf around here unless you count what the container ships push out when they come into port.
