If you really want to experience all the good that Houston does offer you'll reside no where outside of the loop.

Well, if you live in a decent neighborhood you don't. You can't argue with the fact that the best restaurants, cultural offerings, sporting events, music, film, libraries, parks, the zoo, medical facilities, business opportunities, etc. are found ITL. When was the last time you lived in central Houston?

Steve, the "worst elements" now mostly reside between the loop and the beltway.

But there are good neighborhoods in all areas in Houston, not just within the loop. Also in many cases people's jobs reside even outside of the Beltway, so living in the loop wouldn't make sense for them.

Penthesilia:
I think it is safe to ride your bicycle within the area of Montrose, and somewhat safe in the Medical Center area. I have not run into any problems yet. Although, if you decide to live near the Medical Center, you can take the Metro rail into the heart of the Medical Center, like many Houstonians do.

I think it is an oustanding idea to life near the Medical Center because yes, you are near to the Museum district, Downtown, Midtown, Montrose and other enriching areas.

Are you looking for a place to live within the Medical Center? [10 post to link off site] I think the seller/landlord pays the fees so, it would be free for you!

I hope this helps!

Hi,
My fiancé and me are looking for our futur apartment. We are 26-27 and we are European. We arrived in Houston one month ago. We visited the loft at citycenter and we loved it but I do some soul-searching :
- Is it not too noisy at summer or at week end ?
- Do you advise to live there ?
- Is the community young? active ?

Looking forward to hearing from you
Aurélie

If you are going to work in Katy, consider living in Katy - it is a nice, family-oriented area. Houston is very large and it is wise to live near your employer or you spend too much time commuting.
