Depends upon what side of town you live on. Clear Lake on Southeast, Lake Conroe on the North and Lake Houston on Northeast

Does kinda depend on what part of town you are on, but Lake Houston has many spots to drop your boat, google, Lake Houston. The Lake is perfect for Jet ski's because it is very shallow in some places. The San Jacinto River is awesome to go on, you can drop right next to the Interstate 59 bridge at a place called Rivers Edge I believe. Lots of coves to explore, lots of wildlife to see. I was a jet ski owner for 4 years, we sold because we are moving out of the area to relocate for a job, but we sure do miss our jet ski days. There are jet ski groups on yahoo also. Enjoy...

Come on out to Taylor Lake! And wave as you go by! Lots of public ramps into ClearLake...one on Nasa Rd 1 right by the Hilton...can't miss it! Make your way down to Taylor Lake...lot of open room and relatively smooth.

I know you said you want calm waters, but you've gotta take them over to Galveston's beach side...... it's a blast to ride over the waves at the 2nd & 3rd sandbars. Just go far away from people swimming! :-)

I have found Taylor Lake is great for beginners as well, since the water is pretty calm (at least in the morning). Clear Lake is good, but can get choppy by afternoon when the big boys come out to play.

Just wait until it rains, then head over to BW 8 and I-10. You can go in anywhere, right off the frontage road.
