..or within a 30 mile radius of it.

What are they? I'm applying in NYC but I'm going to apply in Houston too. Is college there expensive as well?

1. Rice University (comparable to Ivy League schools & VERY expensive)

2. University of Houston (several campuses around town & not expensive)

3. Sam Houston State University (45 minutes outside Houston in Huntsville)

Rice is the only top college in Houston.

There's also the University of St. Thomas. It's a private Catholic college and pricey. I never really hear much about it, so I don't know how good it is really, or if it's worth the price.

University of Houston is probably your best bet.

You might also try looking at the two community college systems, HCC and I guess... Lone Star (they've renamed it??), for nursing programs.

St. Thomas is pricey and rather low-key but it is fairly well respected from those who know of it. Very pricey though - unless you have some sort of scholarship or financial assistance.

Every year since 1994 is is climbing up the list of U.S. News & World Report's guide to best colleges (now ranking 28). It is in the top tier of universities offering masters degress in the Western region among 123 schools in that category. Have a very low student to teacher ratio which makes for a much more personalized and interactive college experience.

UST's school of education named as one the great schools for 15 of the most popular undergraduate majors in a list compiled for the Princeton Reviews 2008 edition of Best 366 Colleges.

Received international recognition for its Cameron School of Business.

Just recently approved a new school of nursing

Listed as on of the Top 21 Catholic Universities by the Cardinal Newman Society. Although you don't need to be Catholic to attend.

Poli-Sci majors are pretty good and get very good internships and jobs.

Communication program - geared mostly toward television - gets good internships and jobs as well.

Don't forget the University of Texas Health Science Center, on the MD Anderson campus. I'm not sure how the undergrad programs do, but the graduate schools rank highly.

Oh, yes, there's that. http://son.uth.tmc.edu/ I forgot all about the TMC! There's also TWU. I don't know about rankings, but it offers a nursing program, too. http://www.twu.edu/nursing/houston-center.asp These would probably be better options for the OP. Or not... looks like they offer upper division courses only? Well, anyhow...

Did the OP ask specifically about medical or nursing schools or just schools in general in the Houston area?
