That's just terrible. There was a pregnant woman in line with me and she was shifting from foot to foot because she was so uncomfortable. I let her go ahead of me and so did several other people but she still ended up waiting way too long.

I'm with gold_dust.....after I went through the process of changing over my vehicles to TX plates, I went to the DMV in Katy. Well, actually, it's the back office of the local VFW. Anyway, I went on my off-Friday, got there before it opened, already a line. Go in, wait in another line, get a number. Wait for my number to be called to go in the back office to wait again. Wait for an empty desk, then they take the picture and I was off. Got my new DL in the mail shortly afterwards.

Actually, it was pretty painless compared to the 4 other states I've done the same process in.

The one on Bissonnet is NOTORIOUS for having the longest waits. The one I go to is on Emnora, what EA was saying--BW 8 and I-10W.

Interesting thread! Closest DPS office to me is the one in Webster and it would rate high compared to some of the others here. The gloomy, dark interior reminded me of a bomb shelter for some reasons, but the lines weren't long. I waited for about 10 minutes. They have two lines: a regular line and an express line for the elderly, handicapped and pregnant women. The staff at the entrance determines who gets to wait in the express line.

The one in Richmond/Rosenberg can be busy, but as long as you don't go on a Monday or a Friday, or directly at lunch - you should get through there very quickly.

DON'T go to Dacoma off of 290 -- you might pass another birthday while waiting.

I hate the DMV/DPS. I've been here 10 months and haven't got my Texas license yet. Government offices just creep me out. I guess I'll have to man up and finally do it.

Do they deliberately not list the downtown location? I can't find a downtown DPS location on their website. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place?
