I heard Chicago and the Great Lakes states experienced some of the same winds that inland Houston experienced.
On Saturday we got remnants of a Pacific Hurricane. No wind, but 8-10 inches of rain. Sunday, Ike visited. No wind but 1.5"-8"; greater rainfall in south suburbs and NW Indiana. Interstate 80-94 is shut down in NW Indiana because of flooding on the Little Calumet river. 3 people lost their lives, 14,000 homes flooded. Nowhere near as bad as y'all got hit, we don't have the wind damage or wide spread power outages.
Good luck on your clean up and recovery,
your Chi-town friend,
Cubssoxfan.

I think they meant the immediate areas of mass debris and not all of downtown. Whenever I heard them compare it to that it was when they were standing in the center of rubble or a lot of airborne debris swirling around and not as a whole.

where in downtown was that? i'm sure its not comparable to 9/11
back in 9/11 downtown NYC there wasn't a "9/11" yet so they used other words to describe the aftermath. reporters in houston should probably use those instead

I would not use the term 9/11 myself because I associate it with a massive loss of life but I think the media who used it referred to the papers, glass and debris coming down from the Chase Tower area and not all of downtown. I must say though as I've been working last week, various downtown roads have been blocked off an on for window and glass repair in many more bldgs than I would have originally thought.
