Friends and family out of the area reported that authorities have been stopping people from entering the Houston area (unless they live there) who may have wanted to deliver gas and supplies to those in storm-impacted areas b/c they risk running out of gas themselves.

We're in an area still without power and other issues, so I left last night and took my two small children to be with family in DFW. About 30 min or so north of Conroe (on I-45) I saw police lights flashing and a long line of cars. At first I thought it may have been an accident but as I passed, could see the officers talking to folks and cars passing or turning around. The line of cars extended back for many miles...maybe 5-10 miles.

Anyone know how long they may be doing this? Or where to find more information? I really don't want to add another hour or so to my drive back to sit through the checkpoint! (Not to mention, we just moved here last week so I don't yet have proof that I live in the Houston area)

Or, could anyone suggest an alternate route back to avoid a checkpoint? I'd be coming from Arlington.
