Droubi Bro's has 3 locations downtown that I know of- one in the shoppes, one by the Allen Center, and another in the tunnels near Chase.

I think the fare is very good but clearly not totally authentic. A gyro + side salad is $5.25.

You need to attend the greek festival!

Or alternately go and visit Greece!

I hear it's authentically Greek.

I don't know the name of the place but it's around the corner from Niko. It's on the corner of Westheimer and Montrose. Open 24hr. Looks family owned. Laid back place, good food, nice people. Ive never stopped at Niko because it's always too packed when I drive by. This other place is good. Greek salad with gyro meat on top is my favorite.

Best I had is at Phoenicia... As good as up north in Chicago where they have huge middle eastern communities.

You're thinking of One's a Meal (who also own's Biba's on W.Gray). Much better than Niko's in my opinion... but don't listen to us. I rather Niko's keep their long lines & crowds.

The Greek festival does not have authentic gyros, sadly. In Greece they put the fries inside the gyro and they're mostly made with pork.

But for a gyro fix I go to Biba's Greek on West Gray. Not great but not too bad and it's 24 hours. I prefer it to Niko Niko which wasn't too bad but not great.

Then again, I LOVE the Pakistani, Indian and Vietnamese food here better than eating gyros. It's hard to beat Houston in that department.
There is an Indian food truck on Veteran's Memorial that is awesome.

It is hard to compete with Houston's Vietnamese food, but Chicago (and I'm sure NY) has much better Indian/Pakistani food.
