We are living in Clear Lake now in an apartment. We are planning to buy a home and move to Katy-Cinco Ranch. Even though Clear Creek ISD is pretty good one, we are not buying the new home in League City/Clear Lake since we want to be away from Water.

The whole reason of moving to Katy from Clear Lake is because of school district.

Is Katy ISD really that good? or its over hyped ?

We could have bought a home in Shadow Creek Ranch for much cheaper and bigger home and its lot closer to downtown. But decided to buy in Katy- Cinco, a smaller/expensive home than what you can get in ShadowCreek Ranch just for School District.

Sometimes the best way to answer this type question is to get the facts. One area is to goes to the KISD site to see what are they providing. This is the address to their event calendar http://www.katyisd.org/main/calendars.htm (broken link). If possible try to attend one of the events.

Katy ISD kids do have some problems (remember there are still gangs called "cliques" in polite society):

Almost every suburban school system is pretty good if not excellent. Despite various ratings and rankings, I'm pretty sure they are all pretty similar.

The Katy schools South of 10 are much better than those North.

The whole reason I originally got on the City-Data was to inform people about Katy, Texas. A thread about Katy caught my attention so I read it and started putting information down for people interested in Katy. Here is the link to my very first post...

I would have to differ. All suburban schools are not pretty good. Some are down right bad. You have to do the research to find the best schools. This would infer Alief or Aldine or Spring are on the same page as Katy or Conroe Isd. That simply is not the case.
