Hi .

Actually, I'm going to Lubbock to study. But I thought I could go on a trip to Houston with two friends before I go to Lubbock, and I have a couple of questions please.

If we stay in a hotel somewhere, can we visit the notable places of Houston without having to rent a car? Do the bus and rail system cover most parts? I, personally, really like to visit Rice Uni and NASA's Space Center.

Thank you.

You would need to rent a car. The rail system only covers a very small area and it would be really tough to get around and see everything on the buses as they are primarily geared to funneling people to certain areas. Just to drive from the Space Center to Rice University is about an hour.

Rent a car, Houston is very spread out. Its also a long way from Lubbock...

Stay downtown and take the light rail to Rice and the MedCenter/Museum district. You can rent a car to go to NASA and the Battleship and San Jac Monument.

Bus and rail here are awful and don't cover much ground. Rent a car.

Welcome to Houston! A somewhat boring place to visit, but an awesome place to live.

Rent a car with a GPS.

NASA is OK. Its slightly boring, along drive to get to, but its worth one visit. I actually prefer the Rice area, which is close to the park area and the zoo, and is also close to Houston's rather top notch museum area. Houston also has a good theater district if you want to see a show.

Hit the midtown area for the bars and clubs, and make sure to hit the Galleria area for shopping and restaurants.

The Texans may be playing if you here on a Sunday when they are in town. Reliant is about as nice of a football stadium as there is on earth. The Rockets are also playing now and are a good team to see if they are in town when you are here.

There are two things that Houston is world renown for. Strip clubs and restaurants. So depending on your preference you can get very good experiences at both.
