This will be my first year to go and I am inviting some family from out of town to go as well.
I have 2 small children, 2 & 3 years old. Is this a nice family-oriented experience?
Would love to hear your feedback.
Thanks everyone!

It's usually a LOT of fun! However, I don't know how difficult it will be this year post-Ike, hopefully it won't be affected too much! Have a great time...!!

Having just been down to Galveston this past weekend, I find it hard to believe the Strand will be ready for this event. It was pretty bad down there, but repairs were underway. Generally, it is a lot of fun, Can't imagine what it will be like this year, but I can imagine that it will not be entirely at its best. I believe some of the shops were talking about doing street side booths as their interiors will not be restored in time.

Maybe it'll be Dickens on the Seawall?

There was a news story about this a few weeks ago. They said it was going to be much smaller and more like it was in the very first years. I'll try to find the link.

This isn't the story I saw but it has good information:

Thanks for all the info everyone!
Since we are moving to PA in April, I definately want to see this before we go.
I'm sad that it may not be as big as normal, but I know we will still enjoy it!
Happy Holidays!

I'm sure it will be fine but to be on the safe side, look at Galveston's Web site before coming just to make sure that 1) the event is still happening and 2) the date has not changed. A lot of things are being moved around.
