I live in Pine Brook clear lake. Schools are wonderful her especially the high school. Clear Lake High is one of the best high schools in Houston. Elementary and Middle school are all exemplary schools. I have a 7 years old daugher and searched the school info from schooldigger.com before I moved here. Subdivision around our areas are pine brook, brookwood, middle brook, bay oaks, north fork, brook forest etc. There are CVS, walgreen, Kroger, Radells all over the places, it is very convenient. House in my community is all about over 3000 squar footage. I saw some house in my community is for rent, if you need more information please feel free to contact me and also you can go to har.com to find more information.

Good Luck!

Katy is very far from the coast. Clear Lake is a good bet - with very good schools - I would find a home zone to Clear Lake H.S. over Clearbrook H.S. (both do good but Lake is better, imo). Galveston's beaches are not pretty and as a coastal town - it's not pretty but lots of people love it. Clear Lake will provide you plenty of water recreation and good schools and activities for your kids.

I am also relocating from Florida (melbourne area) in 2 weeks. So far, my research has me looking at the Katy area because of the schools. For rental look at The Lakes at Cinco Ranch. I had someone tour it for me and she loved it. It is close to the Katy Mills mall, similar to the Sawgrass Mills mall. Imagine Katy as a newer Coral Springs development. Very family oriented but no beach close by.

We stayed in the Lakes at Cinco Ranch for a month before we closed on our house in Cinco Ranch and we liked it. Exceptionally convenient.

I grew up in Clear Lake and went to Clear Creek High School. Clear Creek and Friendswood have very good school districts. Avoid Alvin, Dickinson, or really anything to the north or south of Clear Lake or Friendswood.

Wow, thank you for all of the input! I didn't realize that owning a pitbull was going to cause me to be tarred and feathered! So I guess I am now looking for any place that will accept my dog. Any suggestions on dog friendly areas(preferrably still south of houston)!

You'll find similar reactions to pits on almost any part of town, they aren't suburbia's favorite breed that is for sure (or upper income inner city either). While all areas are dog friendly - the vast majority don't like pits. Mostly because of their unpredictability temperament, irresponsible owners and the fact that unfortunately many have been bred to fight or kill. Had a contractor in our building who lived in a nice suburb - her pit got away from her in the front yard - ran across the street and killed an elderly man's dog - she was upset because the man was complaining and being ugly about it.... gee ya think? Another good friend's Dad was walking his little dog when a neighborhood pit attacked it while on the leash and killed - bit her Dad's arm up pretty good to as he tried to defend the little thing. Not to mention the random attack on the news of a small child or even owner who never thought their dog would turn. Stories like that don't make residents warm up to them. Also that a lot of young street types have sort of adopted that a a breed of choice - I guess to show tough dog for a tough dude.

Rent under $1400.00, safe neighborhood, GREAT SCHOOLS, recreational programs for the kids, easy access to shopping. Would like to be closer to the coast. My husband and I do not work conventional hours, so rush hour is not a big deal, but would still like the commute to be less than an hour. Would love to have some input to narrow down the search!
Because of your coastal preference, try Pearland, or League City especially. League City is really nice. Not too far from shopping at Baybrook Mall in Friendswood either. Clear Creek ISD is very good.

A pretty good generalization of pits. Not all of this is true. You can pick and choose many stories. My neighbors has a pit and he is the nicest things ever.

Thank you so much for your uneducated, obviously media driven rhetoric response. I happen to know my dogs lineage and he is not bred to fight or kill. My dog has been socialized properly and happens to be the most friendly dog in my neighborhood with people, children and other animals. (Even with the ones with irresponsible owners/parents that allow their vicious poodles, cocker spaniels, labrador and ill-mannered children etc...to roam without leashes or supervision). My dog would not "get away" from me in my front yard because I don't allow my dogs to be off the leash ( regardless of the breed), not because I fear what my dog would do, but to protect my dog from the dogs of the people who own "nice dogs" who allow them to s**t in my yard and run wild! As for the young street types, I am sure you also heard that on the news, because I am sure a person such as yourself would never live, drive by, work or associate with "those types". Again, my question was about areas and neighborhoods for my family not a half-baked "lesson" about my ignorance of owning a PITBULL. I would appreciate knowing what area you live in so I can take it off my list.
