Thanks....before you move back we can maybe be roommates somewhere if I can find myself a job
Medical Center is a very good area, survived the hurricane well with electricity.

Moderator cut: Landlord name and email address

He rents Apts for himself as investments as Rent to Own and then he sub-rents them to people. Some are furnished or unfurnished, and he could have a spare mattress.

No space in my current Apt now, but if I don't get a job soon I'll move to Chicago on Dec 25th - and maybe you can take my space if he sets you up in another temp space.

Hotels suck up money big time! Probably $42 / day at Motel 6! What motel are you at and how much are you paying per day?

This sound to me like bad planning combined with extremly high expectations.

Can you all stop repeating what everyone is saying. Despite what you think, I researched this for a few mths up in NJ and finalized some things especially with housing before I came down. Yes some things fell through with roommates but 1. i'm not staying in a crap hole and 2. if they say they have what I'm looking for then they should or at least lower the rent until they get it. I can't help the amount of desperate people who lie just because they need help paying the mortgage or rent. Sooner or later someone will show up and see its not what they said....I'm shocked how nobody is embarrassed. And my other mistake was putting more faith into recruiters and taking their word for it. I had plenty of conversations back and forth and did this for weeks. I even asked for statistics and went further to ensure I wouldn't have that much of a hard time. I'm giving this 2 mths but after my first days here, if every day is going to be like them, I might as well go somewhere else and try. Now that I'm here it seems like the same old song and dance I'm used to from NJ. I take some blame in this as well. As far as job sites, I'm on them all. Craigslist, Monster, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs, Indeed, Jobbing etc etc. I'm even registered with agencies and open to the fact that I will have to get one full time and few part time if I have to. Job fairs can bite me. Everytime you go to one, they don't tell you anything but how good their company is, no job information or salary average to give out. They direct you to their website to fill out the application. Some won't even take your resume but insist you go online. Then why have a job-fair? Yes I'm aggravated and yes I'm frustrated but I have a right to be this way. I'm not laying down yet, but I'm venting. I reached out to this forum for advice and help, not to have sarcastic and obvious comments pointed out to me because someone wants to be a star with the best comment on here for a laugh. Nothing is perfect anywhere you go, this I know. Nothing happens overnight too. I know. I'm just reaching out to see if people could help with a job, someone who has hiring power or connections. Some help in finding nice apartments that aren't that expensive to start out with. I'm looking around $650/$700 no more to start. I don't see many giving suggestions worth anything, just ripping my post to death. Geez people, take a breath.

Cound you get some jobs through a temp agency until you find a permenent job? There are also plenty of nice homes to rent. We moved here 2 years ago for a job for my hubby at $12.50 an hour. I stay home with the kids. We found a rental for $850 in Katy. He quickly moved up on the pay scale. Don't give up on Houston. The economy here is great. If you need the number of the temp agency my sister goes through let me know. You could also look for a home or apartment out in Katy. They are pretty inexpensive.

Here is a link to some apartments out in the area that I live. What line of work are you in? I can find out if the place that my hubby used to work or works now is hiring. He is in the oil field. He used to build compressors and now repairs some other kind of oil thingamajig.

You know, it seems the Houston Job market got bad after Oct 15th - kinda like an 85% cut in Eng ads in Craigslist! - Probably everything else too?

Since I can leave any time for an out of state job, my landlord is being flexible and I'm paying every 2 weeks!

Hey texasboi - you gotta degree? What type of jobs are you mainly looking for?

It isn't just the Houston economy. My husband and I both work for national consulting companies and we are watching client budgets screech to a grinding halt.
