It's a good area to live. very close to uptown. it's not the greatest area of houston but it's also not the worst.

Westhou, what exactly (or generally) constitutes "uptown" ?? Neighborhoods or boundary streets? I'm still relatively new to Houston proper and am not sure what people are referring to when they say this. I 'get' downtown and Medical Center area but not uptown...or I guess midtown for that matter!

Thanks, just curious!

It depends on what your rent budget is. If you can afford to pay a little more, I'd try a better area. If you can't, I'd find a private condo near the Galleria, in one of the older complexes that are over there off of Bering or Augusta...even Fountainview. That part of Gessner is near Westpark and it's kinda funky over there. Not awful, just...funky. I think I know which apartments though...

Uptown is Galleria area--bordered mostly by the loop, 59, I-10, and down Westheimer to about Hillcroft. There are variances to that though. What you are looking at is in between Galleria and Westchase.

I would avoid anything South of Westheimer between the loop and 8

Uptown is bordered on the east by 610 and bordered to the west by Sage. It goes as far north as maybe San Felipe and to the south to Richmond Ave

Thanks, Westhou and Mom2 as well! I'm an avid map reader and sometimes after reading these kinds of posts I go look things up <g>.

You know how those big mall store directory columns have a "you are here" star? I think Houston needs little street indicators like that for the neighborhoods!
