I am new to Houston and I am trying to find a bar that has a decent selection of beers on tap and good music or jukebox. Classic rock (Beatles, Stones, Dylan etc.. on the jukebox. More a inner city person so I'm hoping to find one in downtown or midtown.

Thank you

Matt

P.S. Houston is great by the way. I am truly enjoying my new home.

Check out the Maple Leaf Pub or Dog House Taverns in Midtown.

I agree with westres1, you will enjoy the flying saucer.

For a ton of different beers, try the Ginger Man in Rice village. It's not really downtown but there's a decent group of bars right there. Also, Brian O'Neals has some comfy couches.

Enjoy

Agree that both bars are nice, but Saucer is downtown and Gman is at Rice. G-man is one of my favorite bars, always an interesting group of folks and highly knowledgeable bar staff.

I know lots of off the radar pubs/bars around W. Gray west of midtown. Crowd is great, very laid back and well travelled, and you will NOT find that in midtown.

Try Komodo - it just one block off W. Gray in an old house, I forget the name of the sidestreet but it is the first street you come to after you pass Cyclone Anaya's - turn right and go to stop sign. It's on your left. In an old house - really comfy place.

Oh how could I forget, one of my favorites La Carafe - downtown. Houston's oldest bar.

McElroy's Irish Pub on S. Sandman (near S. Shepherd and Richmond)
