We are moving from Clearlake to Katy. From 2 Bedroom apartment to Home. Can you guys suggest good moving company? Did anyone use Half Price Movers? They are quoting very low price and they accept CASH only. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I have used the Original 3-men movers many times and have been very pleased. Never had the same crew twice, which didn't seem to matter as they were on time, clean, and didn't break anything. Only suggestion I have is to get the first appointment of the day, as the movers will be fresh and less likely to drop anything.

A relativer used 3 Men several years back and was very pleased with them and their service. I used 3 Men earlier this year just to move my stuff from storage into my apartment less than 5 miles away -- still cost about $350. Service was acceptable...two of the men did not really speak English though so I had to hunt down the driver if I wanted to say anything other than point to the room for boxes, etc. That said, the youngest one was a standout in hoisting boxes on the wheeled cart up a flight of stairs -- I even told him to take less or he'd kill himself. They also had a very difficult time putting together my bed frame and I've been afraid to get down and look at it since ...but my bed hasn't collapsed so I guess however they jerry-built it is working!

Be weary of any company quoting a much lower price than anyone else. Also the 'cash only' may be a red flag. Was the quote they gave by weight, cubic foot, or man hours? If by cubic foot, then it's a BIG red flag.

Here is some info on half price movers I found: Please Review:: Terms of Service

Do you have the same phone number for them? 832-452-3336

They've changed their name twice in the past year from Minute Man Movers to White Glove Movers to Half Price Movers.

They also have an unsatisfactory rating with the Houston BBB due to numerous unresolved complaints: Greater Houston and South Texas: Check Out a Business or Charity

Sounds like they use the traditional moving scam: suck you in with a very low non-binding estimate. They'll load your stuff up on the truck. Then when they get to the destination, they'll come up with a new (much higher) bill. Then they'll demand payment in cash before they unload anything.

I have heard really good things about Katy Movers. Family owned company, very honest. Don't know how much they charge.

Another vote for 3 men movers... to save money we moved all the light boxes outside so they could quickly be loaded (since it's by the hour).

That's actually a good idea. We paid by the hour (3 hour minimum, I recall) and had everything packed and ready to go (beds taken apart, etc.).

The language barrier can be a problem if you don't speak any Spanish. I only speak a little, but pointing and other gestures usually do the trick.

Oh, and have some water or soda for them...it's cheap and anyone doing that much heavy lifting will appreciate it.
