Conroe ISD has 5 High Schools. Conroe High, Woodlands High, Woodlands College Park High, Caney Creek High and Oak Ridge High. Conroe and Oak Ridge are both very mixxed socioeconomically. Woodlands is high on the upper end of the socioeconomic scale, College park is a little more mixxed but still pretty high upper there. Caney Creek is smaller (4A) than the other schools in the district and a bit more rural. Overall not a bad district. Each school has a lot of school pride, and tries hard. Not a bad district at all.

cmarchand said it right. TEA ratings don't always reflect the school.

Smile Open School concept in Cy-fair ISD

Can anyone describe exactly what open school concept mean? Just that there are no doors to the class room or is several classes in the same room at the same time?
We are considering Cy-Fair ISD as we are moving from Norway to Houston this summer. We have two boys of 12 + 14 years. Will it only be the zip code we live in that decide the schools or is there any kind of flexibility? If we choose Hamilton Middle School and Cy-fair High School will that be possible? If yes in which zip codes can we start to look for a house? I think we are in the area where mr. Football took a lot of nice pictures - correct? Many stupid questions but we just want to make the right choices and school is important. Do we choose the schools first and then find the house. We also planned to go and visit schools of interest but from the last post this is obviously not possible. My husband’s work is at West Little York 77041. We consider Katy to be too far as the traffic is bad that way?. Correct or is it not that bad. We are interested in all the information we can get on each middle and High School in Cypress ISD. Anyone who have any experience to share with us we will appriciate it. Thank you.

Kunter, that would be the 77429 zip code.

Check out Longwood, Lakewood Glen, Lakewood Oaks Estates, or Rock Creek. We've got a number of European ex-pats in Longwood. In fact, I've got some new neighbors who just moved in from France.

This is the best website to shop for homes in Houston:

www.HAR.com

I'll have some more pics next week from the upcoming Easter party.

We're also having a big neighborhood casino night for adults at the Northwest Forest Conference Center next month. Should be fun!

We chose Katy. Our son is in preschool and could start K next year. I am generally opposed to public education (for our family). Not based on religious preference but because I think standardized testing is pointless and I believe in differentiated education. I was floored in a positive way when I took an impromtu tour of a Katy elementary K class. Floored. It had much in common with what I have seen in a Montessori classroom. The methods being used were very impressive, current, student focused.

I agree that any of the Katy schools in the Cinco Ranch area or South of 10 are generally rated higher than those north. Schools ratings are not the end all be all but they will tell you about the SES of the neighborhoods and help you find a match to your wants/needs.

If you were to live north of the freeway, just stay away from the Mayde Creek zone. It is the worst. Morton Ranch is going to start shaping up more with the developments going on there (Bridgeland, think Cinco Ranch North, just bigger). Katy High School as well is not too bad either, but your home would probably be South of the freeway (I-10).

A really good School District is Danbury ISD, very small and a little far out but a lot of people do commute. http://www.danbury.isd.esc4.net/ (broken link)

Good luck
