OK, I know there have been posts about commute times from cinco ranch to galleria but I haven't seen any that comment on how it is currently.....since I-10 has opened up. I am relocating this January and need to find a rental home for at least one year. I have a child in elementary school and one that will need to go to daycare. I work in galleria area and my husband on Stancliff rd (roughly 59 and beltway 8 intersection). We are looking in 77024 area but find what we can afford (about 1800/month) seems to be pushing west of the memorial area I love. Sooooo I have been thinking about Cinco Ranch or Sugarland. Any opinions - - is the Cinco Ranch commute pretty good now that I-10 has opened up? Thanks everyone!!!

Well to be honest with you, it has helped a little bit, not as much as I thought it would though. I would say a 20% reduction in drive time, and Im being generous! Its just when people get into wrecks or accidents that makes it a nightmare! 1800/month in Cinco Ranch area is what your typical home is leasing for!

My husband says it's WAY better, especially because since the construction is over the accidents are far less frequent. He leaves around 6:45 and is usually in his office (at the galleria) before 7:30. He takes the Westpark Tollway home because he says just getting from his office up the 610 loop to I-10 in the afternoon is bad. He would say the commute from Cinco to the Galleria is MUCH improved. It should only get better when the managed lanes open up, I would think.

For the heck of it I tried taking I-10 to Grand Parkway and down to New Territory last week after work. (this passes right by Cinco Ranch) It was not something I'll do again. I-10 is actually pretty good, though it got slow around SH-8 and SH-6. The problem I found was the I-10 / SH-99 intersection was TERRIBLE. Easily 15 minutes from exiting I-10 until I actually got onto Grand Parkway South. Now this was leaving around 6 so it's probably the worst case.

Overall my usual 1 hour commute down the west loop and 59S took about 75 minutes going 10W to Grand Parkway.

Yes, the I-10/99 intersection can be bad at rush hour, so it's ten times faster to go out the back of Cinco Ranch and up Pin Oak Rd to get on I-10. No traffic lights, saves us a ton of time. And coming home from work via the Westpark Tollway is much better for that reason too.

It's still horrible if you are dead in the middle of rush hour, but if you leave your house even 30 minutes earlier (around 6:30 or so), it's not too bad.

Take the Westpark Tollway straight to the Galleria. That's your best option.

That is what my husband used to do when we lived out that way. Man did that get expensive.
