I have been looking at houses in the 77074 area code, behind HBU and the homes are pretty nice, mostly Mid-Century ranch style, but the apartments look scary, and have big plastic signs out front advertising really cheap rent.

Those are decent houses but if I were going to buy in Sharpstown I would buy around Sharpstown middle school because the houses there tend to be more expensive and higher in quality.

I dont think Sharpstown has a chance for revitilization unless they tear those apartments that are all over the place. Chinatown development has helped a little and now heavy investment from the Latinos with Plaza Del Oro/Sharpstown should bring money in the area. Someone has to can those apartments.

The housing in the Sharpstown area reminds me of the Rosedale/Allendale neighborhoods of Austin, which have similar housing and are today extremely sought-after for their location.... just close enough but just far away enough from the central city. It's too bad the over-abundance of big apartment complexes in Sharpstown and SW/W Houston ruined the schools and surged the crime rate which killed what would have otherwise been a similar desirable neighborhood in Houston.

Exactly. When people elsewhere in the state think negatively of Houston, it is often because of the ghetto areas and high crime associated with the fact there are too many random parts of town with an over-abundance of apartment complexes. It's too bad the city and its ETJ haven't learned this lesson yet, as they continue to build these things like there's no tomorrow, some even getting tax-credit funding from the state (TDHCA) to do so....

Sharpstown has been turning around for the last 4 to 5 years now, real state prices there have been steadily rising; there is nothing but good news for Sharpstown area. Anyone who has tested the real state market there will tell you that the foreclosures are been snapped up as soon as they are announced.

Concern? Why would I be concerned about private sports fields? St. Agnes has been around forever. You implied that an "new school" was going in on that property. That's just going to be an OLD, private school's new SPORTS fields.
