OK, so I'm graduating college in may and I'm looking very heavily at the Houston Police Department. I have a few questions though that I'm just wondering about.

1) How is the police department? What are peoples opinions on it? If anyone who actually is a police officer could answer this that would be great.

2) If I move to Houston, where should I look at for living? I don't want to live in a place where when the sun goes below the windows I go below the windows.

3) Whats traffic like? Is rush hour something I should dread cause I will be stuck on the Highway not moving for an hour? Or does it just move slower then normal? I'm from Omaha and it almost never took more then 20minutes to get somewhere, any commute under an hour I can handle. I don't know what Houston traffic is like.

and 4) What's the nightlife/bar scene like? I don't drink more than 1-2 beers a night, but it's always nice to have a place to go and meet people, see concerts, all that fun stuff. I'm only 22 and don't want to be stuck inside all the time.

Thats pretty much the big things, I don't care if I do patrol out in the dangerous areas of Houston, it's part of the job. But I want to be able to go home at the end of the day and not have to worry about getting mugged or broken into.

Any kind of input will be useful!

Oh, and if anyone is a police officer reading this, let me know, I'd like to pick your brain.

Thanks!

I'm in Law Enforcement, Houston PD is currently offering a bonus for joining the force, but there pay is not really on par with other cities this large.

What you find in Houston Law Enforcement is officers getting that "first" experience and then moving onto cities who pay and benefits are substantially better.

If your coming from Manhattan KS, Houston will be a big change socially if your interested in a night life, but it also brings with it all the drawbacks of a very large city (traffic, sprawl etc...).
