As I read the background info on the Houston suburbs, one common thread appears - "length of stay below or well below state average"

It seems as though there is a huge influx of people/families moving into the Houston area - but how long are they staying? Any idea why they are leaving after a short period of time?

We are planning a job related move to Houston in the next 12 - 18 months and are hoping to make a long-term commitment.....should I be concerned by what I've read?

Houston's a very vast area land wise. One of the things that bothers me when I read boards like this sometimes, is the idea that you have to live in The Woodlands or Sugarland or somewhere on the outskirts if you live in the Houston area. I've lived in the city limits most of my life and have never been mugged or robbed in person and by and large don't feel afraid. I think in part you develop a little street savvy over time, but I also think that the Houston suburbs aren't that dangerous. Certain pockets are, but it depends on the area.

I would mainly say research the area you're planning on moving to. You'll find that Houston is mostly safe. I think lot of the housing turnover may be economic. People rent for a while and then leave.
