Today my family tried to take I-45 South through Clear Lake on a house hunting trip. The traffic on I-45 came to a complete stop for several miles, so we exited the highway and tried a different route, but soon all the alternative routes were jammed up, too.

Four hours later we drove home and we could see that I-45 South was still bumper to bumper.

It can't just be normal weekend traffic to be that bad..does anyone know what happened? We did see one ambulance trying to make its way through the traffic.

It was unusually bad today. Really bad -- worse than I've ever seen in 4 years of being down here. All I know is underneath 45 @ Clear Lake Blvd there were literally concrete chunks missing from the freeway being patched up. Looking at TranStar cameras, they had I-45 South down to one lane from around the Beltway to League City. Hwy 3 had the same backups.

Yeah I read a sign on Friday that they were going to have a few lanes closed over the weekend. Must be construction work. It's also gonna get bad when they start taking down the NASA parkway bridge. That should begin in May and last a couple months.

In the mean time, learn your way around the side streets on both sides of I-45. It helps tremendously!!!

Everyone wanted to go to Galveston this weekend. Crazy Amazing weather and people are off to Kemah, Moody and Galveston. Add in construction and you have a headache

Yep! Construction. I believe they are putting in the Webster by-pass or something like that. A total mess on a lovely weekend where everyone wants to head for the beach. Best to take 146 or Hwy 6 around the mess depending on where you are coming from. Then again, 146 was backed up at Seabrook as usual.

The NASA bypass project has been going on for awhile now. That certainly doesn't help traffic in the area. However what was going on yesterday was major patchwork about 4 miles north of the bypass that had the freeway almost completely shut down. Almost all of the side roads suffered as a result. Apparently this is happening today... looking at the Transtar cameras there are guys standing in the freeway as we speak.
