Seriously, there are plenty of other places with decent economies and somewhat affordable housing. What is it that holds people here if they hold so much disdain for the place?

Jobs are available elsewhere. Houses are available elsewhere. Good schools are available elsewhere.

I'm genuinely curious. I've lived in numerous other places and visted even more, and I really like it here. But, when I hear complaints about Houston, I constantly hear the same ones over and over again. And most often, those complaints are supercillius at best and spurious at worst.
I have to agree with you on this. I can't believe how much people whine about the weather, especially now, when it is absolutely AWESOME outside.

I had a friend in town from Philadelphia this weekend. She came to escape the cold grayness, and we did a lot of hiking and gardening. We went to tour some new homes and several of the real estate agents complained about how terrible the weather was on Sunday, when it was overcast and drizzled a bit for a few hours. When they found out she was visiting from Philly they would start out raving about how awesome Houston is, but quickly change to ranting about the heat and humidity in summer. It was a pathetic sales job.

actually i am planning a move in the summer of 2011 out of state. i have to wait until then to save money and because we have a baby on the way right now. so, i am going to do something about it....i just can't quite do it yet. that was a good question though. people shouldn't complain unless they are going to do something about it.

Seriously!! I walked around campus at work yesterday and I hated to go back inside because more perfect weather could really not be found anywhere.

And we've had weeks and weeks and weeks of such days. In December, January, and February, even.

So it will get hot and sticky in the summer...totally worth the trade off, in my opinion.

Yep I'm loving this weather. I've been out jogging about 3 times a week for the last month or so. Couldn't do that when i lived in seattle or chicago this time of year.

You work at UH right? wow the possiblity of seeing each and have no idea who we are is just great lol.

But seriously, the weather in Houston is fantastic (although right now it looks like its gonna rain).
There are far more problems in Houston than the weather. ALOT more!

Although the good weather only seems to come around on the weekdays lol

Yes, I do work at UH. If you want to get a job there when you graduate and then live in Sugar Land, we can carpool to work. (I know you are screaming in terror at the thought!)

Yeah why DO people whine so much about those 3 (only 2 in my opinion) months of uncomfortable weather? Stay inside, that's what A/C is for. There are far more important things to worry about.
