That depends on the hours you work and where you work in Houston.

The poorest of the poor in South Katy would be what I would classify as middle class in many other areas. Good schools, 1000 amenities, and relatively low crime make it a paradise to many that know what 'bad' areas are really like. The Houston economy in general is strong compared to many areas of the country, and yes, there is a Park and Ride if you prefer taking a bus and reading the paper on the way to Downtown vs driving.
Do I sound like an advocate? Absolutely. Will I still live here when my kids are all grown (about 4-5 years), maybe not. I'd probably move closer to the Gulf since I like the water. Would I change my decision to raise my family here if it was a do-over? Not a chance.
2nd fastest growing city in the USA? Source? What part if South Katy? Where would you want to raise your kids?

I'd live there if I had to do so, but I prefer my area (yes, it's west, but it's not as far as Katy).

Given the choice, I like Sugar Land better, but that's just a subjective personal opinion.

Well, and Topaz lives in Sugar Land, so there's another reason to like it.
Who is Topaz?

"Upper Class" is a very subjective term, but if your trying to define it in terms of dollar value of homes, then I would consider certain gated sections of Cinco Ranch, Avalon at Seven Meadows, and Lakeforest at Kelliwood to be where the over $1 million homes are. The latter, Lakeforest, is probably even more exclusive with homes surpassing $2 million on wooded acreage lots.
