My wife's family farms down around Victoria and they have been in a severe drought. A lot of farmers haven't even bothered planting some of their crops yet because its been so dry. They have, however, gotten about 1" of rain the last day or two and they are very thankful for it.

I kid you not...we have--er, had two unfinished sidewalks (framed out but no concrete) that are part of the I-10 construction by our condos. They've been unfinished for several weeks, I'd say close to 5 or 6. Don't you know that Thursday--right before the rain began-- they were out pouring the concrete.

Your tax dollars at work, folks...

From Chron.com 3/11/09:

A series of rainstorms expected in southeast Texas as soon as today could quench a drought that has been developing since Hurricane Ike’s deluge in mid-September.

Since then, only 10 inches of rain has fallen at Houston’s Hobby Airport. The area normally would have received more than 2 feet during that period.
While Houston has definitely been drier than normal, it's a tropical rain forest compared to Austin, where I'm still living. If I remember correctly, until the rain came down this week we were short 27 inches for the last 18 months. Worst drought for us in 90 years. Thousands of young trees and shrubs have died, and creeks have had no water in them for the first time in many decades. But...this week we've had 2-5 inches so at least things are greening up (rapidly).

We had quite a hailstorm here about an hour ago. The hail is still on the ground, believe it or not. It was surreal! I have pics, I just need to upload them.

^Wow, that's crazy!

No hail here, but the rain was pouring down in buckets earlier. It's drizzling now.

We had hail on S. Shepherd near Westheimer a little before noon today...and THUNDER! As dreary as the weather is, I am glad for the rain, especially since it's been more of a gentle soaking rain. That's the best.

Feebs,

What time was that hail?
I got back from the weekend and my flowers and veggies were shredded! I had three messages from neighbors saying it was the worst they'd ever seen.

Time to call a roofer to take a peek. I had hail back in Tanglewood around 2000, and it destroyed my roof and I didn't thing the storm was that bad.
