I'm thinking about relocating to the Houston area after graduation, and I'm trying to dig up as many company names as I can for potential employment.

I'm about to graduate with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and a specialty in Power/Energy Systems.

I've heard Houston is quite the energy hub, so I'm looking at all sorts of employers. Consulting firms, utilities, major oil companies, anyone you think might need an electrical engineer.

Thanks!

Hey I'm an illini alum as well. B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. Welcome to Houston. Sorry I don't have much on energy companies. But definitely network with the illini alumni association here in Houston. I'm sure you'll get some get feedback.

You have background potential for becoming a fascilities engineer for the energy companies in Houston or if you are strong in signal processing in image work for seismic processing companies (although they'll call you a geophysicist not an EE if that's all right with you). Big outfits with a strong presence in Houston (whether HQ'd or not): EXXON; Shell; Chevron; Devon; Hess; Anandarko (actually in the Woodlands); Conoco-Phillips. Seismic: GXT; Paradigm; PGS; Western-GECO. Also, Schlumberger and Dresser electric-logging companies could probably use you (do borehole measurements in oil and gas exploration & production wells.

Well... the economy is real bad.. but my company is actually still looking for EE's.

I must warn you though my company doesn't pay as high as the Oil and Gas company's but they do have a very stable footing in the Houston area.

You can PM me for more info

Thanks for the responses. EEstudent, you've been pm'ed. I've checked out some of the companies listed but not all of them, so I'll definitely add them to my list.

Some people are telling me Houston is an awesome place to go (both city wise and job wise for me), but others warn me to stay away.

I'm really deciding between Chicago and Houston, but leaning very heavily towards Houston.
