We are still considering a move to Pearland and have heard to avoid the area where they are building the new high school. Is there any truth to that and if so - why? Also - where is the new school being built?

The new Dawson High School will be built on Cullen, between Hughes Ranch and Beltway 8. There really aren't many places to live near it. Its pretty lonely on that stretch of road.

But 1-2 miles from the new school is whats known as West Pearland. Silverlake, Shadowcreek, Sunrise, Southdown, Silvercreek, etc. What are you looking for. Several, including myself know the area well.

I live in Pearland. I think the main reason now to avoid that area is becasue the contruction is making the traffic on that road even worse. Cullen is going to be widened soon but this will barely help the area. At rush hours and on Saturday it is a nightmare. Avoid it at all costs. I live in Emerald Pointe and am very happy there. Crime is a part of life and it is everywhere. Just be aware of your surrondings like anywhere else. We do not have more crime here. I am happy and content to live here.

Yeah mainly due to traffic. I take Cullen everyday and it aint pretty. Construction hasnt even really started yet and it's terrible. So when it really gets going it's going to be bad. I think construction is suppose to last a while. Up to a year I believe. So combining construction and new high school, traffic is going to be reaaaaaaaally bad. I work an earlier schedule mainly due to Cullen traffic.

I would be learry about moving into a neighborhood where you will have all these little punks cutting classes everyday. They'll get bored and decide to break into your house while you're at work.

No high school, no punks

Crime is higher in the neighborhoods that are new and are more near 288/BW-8 than areas in older Pearland due to proximity of major highways. However - that is the trade off for being where everything is located and now -- the somewhat safer area of Pearland is older and less new. Sort of old and new innerspersed.

No high school, no punks
In cities, where there is a secondary school on almost every corner, you often have no choice but to live near a secondary school.
