Sugar Land has an airport that gets general aviation flights. But it once had Conquest Airlines flights to Austin in the 1990s with 19-passenger Metroliner propeller planes.

So, should Sugar Land get passenger airline service again? With more residents and companies around, maybe limited flights to other Texas cities could be a possibility.

For instance, American Eagle could sent ATR-72s from Dallas/Fort Worth to Sugar Land twice or three times a day.

The point would be to allow people in Sugar Land, Missouri City, Rosenberg, and Richmond to have more convenient flight connections.

I agree, they should definately look into getting a little bigger and even getting a carrier like jetblue or something to go to other states. I hate going all the way to IAH.

I live right across the street from that airport but you won't catch me on any 19 seater airplane!

I can see why some are averse to 19-seaters.

The good news is that the ATR-72, used by American Eagle from Hobby Airport to DFW, seats around 70 passengers. I can see ATR-72s being used from Sugar Land.

I would like to see more commercial flights from Sugarland, however the ATR 72 does not have a good record in cold weather. Ice buildup around the elevators and rudder has been a problem in the past. American eagle used the ATR 72 between Miami FL and Puerto Rico and stopped all flights in the cold regions. Even though most of the year is hotttt, but in the winter Houston and Dallas gets pretty cold at times. Maybe even some snow. I feel that a small jet like ERJ-145 would be a much better choice. This is a jet that Continental Express Airlines or Express Jet uses and is all ready based in Houston. This is not a load aircraft and it is a good fuel economy aircraft. in any case I would love to see commercial flight from Sugarland Airport. It would be good for the economy.

Houston needs a second international airport so it will be convenient for Westsiders. But I have a mixed reaction with having jets fly over my house before landing after spending many lunch hours in North Cypress. Maybe it might be better to keep air traffic a Northern Houston problem instead of spreading it to Southern Houston and just drive up there when I need to? Or maybe the benefits outweigh the risks and the annoyances?

Might be wrong but I don't really see this happening anytime soon. Some charter flights, sure. I don't see how Houston is underserved by IAH and Hobby.

I would not mind a small jet (737) that goes from Sugar Land to JFK, ORD, SFO, or LAX? I hate going to IAH and Hobby does not have enough flights to cities where I have to travel.

But not a prop jet....dang i hate those things! the noise. I used to travel in Europe and took a lot of puddle jumpers. the dang noise would not be OSHA approved....I actually try and avoid flights on small planes unless there is no other choice. Mainly because there is not a First Class seat on puddle jumpers.
