We're relocating to Houston, my husband will be working in Bellaire and my son going to a special needs private school. I'll probably be studying at Rice or UH. We are currently looking at Hilshire Village. We want a safe area and have a large dog who needs twice daily walks. Is that a nice area? Does anyone have any comments to make or advice to offer? Are gated communities a good option and is there one at Hilshire?
Thanks,
Miss G.

If you can afford it, it's one of the nicest areas in Houston. I wouldn't worry about living in a gated community, the whole area is safe and well patrolled.

If you can afford Hilshire, you may also want to look into West U. It's safe and the commute would be a lot shorter for you and your husband, though I'm not sure how far it would be from your son's school.

Hilshire is great and is zoned to the city's best schools. But, if you have a choice, for the same price, between a house south of I-10 and north of I-10 in the villages, go south. It's easier to sell and holds or increases it's value slightly better.

But there are no worries to buying in that area.
