Hello,

I will be moving into a home that has carpet and ceramic tile flooring. I want to rip out the carpet and put in all ceramic tile because I own three dogs. What is the going rate per square foot to have ceramic tile installed?

I know some of you may suggest that I do it myself. I am leaving a 1500 square foot house that has all ceramic tile installed by moi. It took me off and on a little over two years to get it all done. It just seems daunting to do it all over again I am also toying with the idea of just having the concrete stained.

Just go to a major home improvement or flooring store and have them give you an informal quote for the installation labor if all you want is an estimate. It will depend (somewhat) on the type of tile being installed, whether it's being set on the diagonal, etc.

For a more exact quote, I suggest paying the small fee and joining Angie's List. Some people think it's just a front for businesses but my personal experience is that you can find really good craftsmen there. I hired a painter and plumber based on their Angie's List ratings and was very pleased with the results. Much better than how I've fared when I just picked someone at random.

I agree with tdhg566 about angieslist.com. I've been an angie's list member for four years and have found great servicemen (auto repair, electrician, painters, garage door repair, clothes dryer vent installation, new windows, plantation shutters, etc) there. Before joining angie's list, I used an internet service that's free to consumers and had terrible experiences with all the contractors.

Thank you. I looked at the information for Angie's List. So it is worth the membership fee?

It is worth MORE than the membership fee. Repairmen often give discounts to Angies List members. The most valuable part, though, is the fact that the reviews are HONEST and THOROUGH. It's the first, and the only, place I check for whatever I need done. In fact, I think so much of Angies List that I've prepaid my subscription for the next five years.
