During the first 21 yrs of my life I grew up in Eastex/Jensen area. Then after that me and the family moved further out to the 249/Antione area. Several years after that we moved to the Tomball area. During my research on where to buy I wanted to live in the city but the wife to be was having none of that. I miss that city vibe or maybe its nostalgia. When I think back I wish I had bought my dad's old house. Maybe one day I will move to the city from the burbs. I was just curious who in here lives in the city?

I'm just outside 610. Considering a move closer in.

Was just outside 610 on the West side. Now I'm hanging on the Beltway on the Westside. Still not all that burbish. But it does have a hint of it.

Anything that hugs the beltway (within Houston) may not have a suburban-town feel, but the layout is still nearly 100% suburban. Even between 610 and 8 is nearly 100% suburban in nature. I guess one could doublespeak it as "urban" instead of saying "dilapidated". But even the best region in this ring (Memorial Villages) are still their own suburban-style towns, complete with conspicuous consumption and Woodlands-style demographics.

Even some of what's inside 610 is suburban-ish. This was as far as the city went out 50 years ago, for the most part.

Being dilapidated doesn't make it urban.

Meyerland, Greenbriar, Rice Military areas for example... I'd be in the Rice area if I could afford it.

And the dilapidation thing... just repeating what's been said in here about certain areas having an "urban feel" such as MLK @ 610 or OST/Scott/Griggs/Calhoun. If that's urban, then so is Port Arthur.

That was for them, not you.

I'm inside Beltway 8 (but outside Loop 610) at Lakes of Fondren and within the Houston city limits yet my single family house lot backs up on a lake with ducks, egrets, turtles, and stocked with bass and giant carp for weed control. Just outside the subdivision are acres of empty lots heavily forested. Just typical of the weird nature of Houston where inside the city limits can actually be quite suburban, even rural.

The way I always thought was the city was originally the loop and just outside the loop. Then the sprawl happened. You have the area between the loop and beltway which some define as city and other the burbs. Coming up we have the third loop the grand parkway which would push everything out further. Is this even necessary?

Rice Area is a burb too, just with more dilapidation and material flaunting than Clear Lake. All of Houston is a Burb Blob. Some area's closer in just feel "less burb." There is a difference between a suburban layout and suburbia.

PS- The Woodlands is far more diverse than the Villages.
