Hello All!!!
My husband has been informed that his company is going to transfer us permanently to the Woodlands, TX; at the end of July.
My main concern is about school costs. I have been reading on the internet and apparently in Texas kids can't start studies at public schools before they turned 5. I have a daughter who will be 4 years old in June and she is already studying kinder (Equivalent to pre-kinder there) here in WA (Western Australia). The school year here starts on February and ends on December.
So as I read, she can't start pre-kinder in a public school because she doesn't have any disadvantage, thanks God, so she will need to go to private. Does any of you can tell me how much approximatly I have to pay for her in a private school? Can she attends every day of the week? can I still register her at the end of July?
Please if someone can give me any information it would be highly appreciated!!!
Thank you very much

hi there! correct, TX and most US public schools start kinder @ age 5. Consider a church day school for your 4 year old or yes, you'll pay for private education until she reaches age. Have your tried The Woodlands - The Woodlands is the #1 master-planned community in Texas - north of Houston. for local info? I'm in SugarLand 25 miles south of Houston, so this is all the insight i can offer now. HTH.

Many people send their younger childresn to "pre-school" which is a year or two before Kindergarten.

There are many options in the Northwest/Woodlands side of town and you just have to pick the right one. Usually, the ones associated with a church are the most cost effecient.

There are lots of pre-school programs in the Woodlands, often times associated with churches, daycare centers or schools (i.e. private academies). It's a big place, and you would probably want to fnd a program close to your house (or rental, and I would suggest to anyone renting for 6 months to a year) for convenience. If you are a particular denomination, you could start looking for churches of your faith and see what they offer.

We rented here for a year to find the house/neighborhood that we wanted. Feel free to PM me for information, and good luck with your search!

G'day and Welcome to Houston!! The woodlands is a nice place to raise kids!

Also, will you please tell your husband that there is a houston FOOTY team in the making (called the Houston Lonestars)? It'll just be a good way for him to get acquainted with Houston! We meet Thursdays at 6:30 pm at Spring Brach Middle School (if you google it, you will find directions) and some saturdays for practise. Let me know if he's up for it. Hooroo and i hope your family enjoys it here!
