My price range is up to about 240k or so. Depending on taxes. Here in Longview my house is appraised at 260k and I only pay 3200 in taxes.

Conroe would be a good area for you. There are several communities on Lake Conroe with big lots. You might want to check out Bentwater.

This house is in Oakhurst which has the fastest access to 59 in Kingwood and would be your easiest commute to IAH. Does it meet your criteria?

25589 Peppermill Creek Dr, Porter, TX 77365 - HAR.com

chris_ut, thats a nice house. I wonder what the tax is on that. I cant seem to find tax info on the MCAD website. We're trying to avoid a 2 story house. It's been a while since we've shopped for houses. Is there an average % I can expect the seller to come off the asking price? Ball park figures? Thanks, Nick

I know that house has been on the market for like 6 months so he might drop as much as 15k. Here is a house around the corner that is 1 story and also already right in your price range: 20967 Kransburg Ridge Dr, Porter, TX 77365 - HAR.com . House looks very nice on the outside. Taxes in this area are 3.6% unfortunately due to the MUD. When searching MCAD use just the first part of the street name (i.e. Peppermill or Kransburg) and un-click the Exact button and it should pop up.
